COURT HOUSE – Author-playwright Monte Howell, whose pen name is Maurice Lamont, will return to his high school alma mater at The Performing Arts Center on the Friday and Saturday nights of July 31 and Aug. 1 as writer, producer and director of a free admission environmental show “The Nerve To Conserve.”
In a program sponsored by The Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Howell will bring a cast of actors to dramatize the importance of conserving all natural resources.
“We will use hip hop music to inform, educate and entertain,” he said.
Howell’s career in the arts began at Middle Township High School in 1993 when he appeared in the leading role of the king in the musical “The King and I.” Since then he has written a series of books called “Learning Life Lessons with Hopper Squirrel,” two of which have been printed and three others are works in progress.
“The Hopper Squirrel Books,” he says, ”attempt to re-humanize our kids and families due to all this automation and technology dependency.”
He also has written poetry and song lyrics, has staged shows and coached athletics.
For a change of pace, Howell also served in the Marine Corps, getting to know a few generals as he chauffeured them in Japan. He was meritoriously selected for that role.
