Middle Township Announces Rabies Clinic to Coincide with 2016 Licensing, Census Period

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — Middle Township will hold a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic for cats and dogs on Sat., Jan. 30, 2015, from 2 to 3 p.m.
“In light of the five recent rabies cases in Middle Township, it is especially important that pet owners keep their pets vaccinated against rabies,” stated Clark. “I hope that residents will take advantage of the upcoming Free Rabies Clinic.”
The clinic will be held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Recreation Center located at 207 West Main Street in Whitesboro. The Free Rabies Clinic is open to all dog and cat owners regardless of income level. One-year and three-year dog licenses will be available for sale.
Animal Control Officer Bill Candell said “Three raccoons and two bats tested positive for the deadly rabies virus in Middle Township during 2015. Eight residents of Middle Township had to receive post-exposure prophylactic treatment for rabies in 2015. Six of those residents required treatment as the result of exposure to a bat that was found indoors. Even if your pet never goes outdoors it should be vaccinated against rabies.”
Middle Township will again conduct the Biennial Dog Census to document unlicensed dogs in the Township. All dogs over six months of age must be licensed by Jan. 31s of each year. A rabies vaccination, that is current until Nov. 1 of the licensing year, is required to receive a license. A dog that wears a proper license can be easily returned to its owner if it is found. Recovering a lost dog at the shelter can cost the pet owner at least $45, while a one-year license costs under $12 and a three-year license costs less than $36.
License forms may be printed in advance from the Township website at www.middletownship.com.
If your dog needs a license and is current for its rabies vaccination please visit www.middletownship.com or call Dawn Stimmel at Town Hall at (609) 465-8732 for information on obtaining a license.
