COURT HOUSE — A simple “thank you” doesn’t seem sufficient for the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who are working long hours to contain the spread of COVID-19.
That’s why Middle Township is dedicating its next Front Porch Social (Distancing) Hour to medical professionals. Residents are encouraged to “Honor Our Healthcare Heroes!” at 6 p.m. April 24, by raising a glass and holding up signs to salute medical workers from the safety of their porches.
The Township launched its front porch series in mid-March as a way for residents to show their community spirit while staying within social-distancing guidelines. Each weekly event has a specific theme.
As part of Friday’s event, residents can post videos, pictures and signs in tribute to healthcare workers on Middle Township Coronavirus Info Group, a community Facebook page that’s become a hub of positive activity and social sharing. Medical professionals are also welcome to post photos of themselves at work on the page.
Cape May County’s only hospital, Cape Regional Health System, is located in Middle Township. The health system has established a COVID-19 Fund that will be used to purchase necessary medical equipment and supplies for physicians, nurses and staff members who are treating patients. While weather conditions will postpone a banner plane flyover that was planned above Cape Regional Friday April 24, children can download a picture of a banner plane from the CoronaVirus Info Group page. Kids are encouraged to color in the picture and write a message for healthcare workers in the banner portion.
“Now that we won’t have the real thing flying over, it is more important than ever that we all print out this page and color our messages in honor of our healthcare heroes,” Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue posted on the Facebook page. “Let’s make sure they know we love them. Loud and clear.”
The Facebook page already includes a post of a finished pictured from Kyle Mick, 10.
Kyle colored his plane red and blue, and included a simple but heartfelt note for healthcare workers: “Thanks for keeping us safe.”
