“Mermaids & Mariners Benefit” Will Support the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) Educational Outreach Programs

CAPE MAY – Be a mermaid or a mariner and support a good cause. The Mermaid & Mariners Benefit on Saturday, Aug. 6 is slated to be the party of the summer season with proceeds benefiting the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) educational outreach programs, which reach more than 10,000 students annually. MAC is committed bringing history alive in and out of the classroom and making its educational programs available at little to no cost to area schools. The evening will include entertainment, food, dancing, a live auction, a raffle, an open bar, and for V.I.P. ticket holders, a tour of the 2011 Cape May Designer Show House, Osprey Landing at Cape May Marine, and a chance to meet some of the designers who made this dream townhome a reality.
From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. V.I.P. ticket holders will enjoy a champagne greeting, a meet and greet with the Cape May Designer Show House designers, plus a guided tour of this year’s Cape May Designer Show House, a $2.2 million, four-story dream home at 109 Rosemans Lane. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. dance the night away with music by ‘Hennessey and Jack’ (famous for their seafarer music at the Lobster House Schooner Bar each week) at the Osprey Landing’s Clubhouse. You’ll enjoy delicious foods, international cheeses and tempting desserts, plus an open (Top Shelf) bar all night long. The night also includes a photo booth, auction, raffle and other surprises. Dress is casual. You can choose to be a mariner or a mermaid for the night; wear something nautical and you’ll get a free raffle ticket at the door.
Items up for auction include getaways, vacation packages, gourmet dinners and dining certificates, original artwork, jewelry, tickets to sporting events and much more. Certain items from MAC’s online auction on www.biddingforgood.com will be carried over to the live auction on Aug. 6. Some of the items up for auction include the following: a Romantic two-night Getaway at the Fairthorne B&B in a premium room with a bottle of wine and $100 gift certificate for dinner at one of Cape May’s gourmet restaurants; a Hilton Head Vacation Package; a two-night stay in a premium room at the Queen Victoria B&B; a Daytona Vacation Package; a Sherlock Holmes Weekend overnight package in Cape May from March 16 through March 18, 2012 with accommodations at Leith Hall B&B; a gourmet dinner for six at Cape May’s 2010 Designer Show House, the Fairthorne Cottage; a Mexican Vacation that includes one week in a two-bedroom condo at Sunset Group Resort in either Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, or Riviera Maya; an overnight stay at the Chelsea in Atlantic City with dinner for two at Chelsea Prime; a Sunset Harbor Cruise with drinks and hors d’oeuvres aboard ‘The Majestic Mary,’ followed by an outdoor dinner at the home of Tedd and Mary McKenney; three seats to a Philadelphia Eagles pre-season game and three seats to an Eagles regular season game; a framed original watercolor of the Cape May Lighthouse by award-winning Cape May Point artist John Safrit; a framed original print of Fisherman’s Wharf by West Cape May artist Rich Flanegan; a handmade “Happy Hour” bag and wristlet by Mary Stewart; a pair of tickets to see the NJ Nets; and an autographed hockey puck by NJ Devils Center Tim Sestito.
V.I.P. advance tickets are $100 each (includes the 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. V.I.P. hour at the Show House plus the party at the Osprey Clubhouse) and regular advance tickets are $75 each (good for the 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. party at the Osprey Clubhouse only). Two-hundred years of area history comes alive in and out of area classrooms with programs administered by MAC. MAC has been certified by the New Jersey Department of Education as a professional development provider. MAC’s public history programs are funded in part by an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission in the Department of State.
