Diversified Leadership
Over the past nine weeks, I have given the voters of Cape May County a snapshot of my personal and professional achievements. I presented my 27 years with the Sheriff’s Office Correctional Division and six years with the New Jersey County Jail Wardens Association (NJCJWA), along with 23 years as a volunteer fire fighter and five years serving the Lower Township Emergency Management Office. I also noted my volunteering 15 years as a youth sports coach, umpire and referee.
Experiences Obtained
My background, experiences and training capture a broad understanding of the diverse people in our county. I believe this understanding of the diversity has made me more effective at the things that I have undertaken.
Serving as the Warden, I focused on a pragmatic style of leadership that encouraged a team oriented approach to improving professional standards. As a correctional officer and supervisor, I performed the full range of duties associated with the office. As a NJCJWA Executive Member, I worked with state professionals in creating a safer and more efficient correctional center.
With the Fire Department and Emergency Management Coordinators, I have the privilege working with dedicated professionals that push and sacrifice to keep our community safe. Working with our youth, I have witnessed first-hand the powerful influence our guidance and encouragement have on steering our kids in the right direction.
As Sheriff
These experiences readily apply to the role of Sheriff. As Sheriff, I will use my experiences and training to move the Sheriff’s Office in a new direction – a direction that will improve the services for the community and support our local police in strengthening public safety for our residents and visitors.
