Making Strides Ocean City Walk Set for Oct. 20

The American Cancer Society turns 100 this year, and there would be no better gift than to have you participate in our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. Whether you walk with us, volunteer at the event, or become an event sponsor, you are sure to find an opportunity to participate in Making Strides that works for you.
The local Making Strides South Jersey Walk is set for Oct. 20 in Ocean City beginning at 5th Street & the boardwalk. Registration opens at 8:30 am, the program begins at 9 am, and the survivor lap/warm-up will begin at 9:40. The official walk kicks off at 10 am. Read on for answers to Making Strides of Ocean City FAQ’s:
GENERAL INFORMATION:
With special thanks to the City of Ocean City, we are moving to the football field! The walk kicks off from 5th Street to the boardwalk, heading south and back. 3.5 Miles / almost 5 k Walk – self-paced. This is a “rain or shine” event. Visit our online site: http://makingstrideswalk.org/southjersey to sign up your team, raise funds online, and for lots of other information. Parking can be found on local streets and at numerous lots around the area. Check the available site map, and decide on a place for your team to meet. If your company has a matching gift program, please sign and attach your company’s form to each registration form, and turn it at registration tent.
NO NO’s, PLEASE:
No smoking and no pets, please, for the safety, health, and comfort of all. No vendors permitted on site; only American Cancer Society tents/tables are permitted. No pamphlets, no give-a-ways, no mascots, no stationary signs are permitted, but we encourage you to bring a banner or sign to carry.
DAY OF THE WALK:
Registration/check-in opens at 8:30 AM. Each walker should bring his/her own registration or online form and donations to the big center tent for check-in. There is no registration fee, or minimum contribution required.
Checks should be made out to: American Cancer Society. Cash and credit cards also accepted. If you raised all your donations online, we still need to count you at the walk. Please indicate Team Name on each form.
Breast Cancer Survivors are encouraged to visit the Survivor Tent, for a complimentary Survivor T-shirt. (Remember to check-in at Registration Tent.)
A 2013 Tribute Banner will be at the Survivor Tent area, for everyone to sign. Pre-walk program begins at 9 AM and will include motivating speakers, an honorary Survivor Lap (9:40 AM) once around the track, and a warm-up, just prior to the kickoff. The walk kicks off at 10 AM.
Items available at the “Striders’ Shop” tent include shirts and many new items. Limited quantities, so please shop early. (credit cards, checks, & cash accepted)
Water will be provided before and during the walk. Juice and a light snack will be available following the walk at the check-in tent.
