CAPE MAY – Votes have been counted and the winnersof the 9th Annual Scarecrow Alley Contest sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) are in.
The grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., were transformed for Halloween and became the setting for 19 goofy goblins and spooky spectres created by members of the community that adorned the walkways of the estate, from Friday, Oct. 6 through Tuesday, Oct. 31. Visitors to the estate during this time entered their written ballot for favorite scarecrows in one of six categories: “Individuals or Families,” “Businesses,” “Non-profits, Church, Club, Scout Troops,” “Munchkins” (aged 3-10), “School Group” and the “Cape May Elementary Class Award.” MAC provided straw and two wooden cross stakes for registrants. Registration for the event was free.
Winners were chosen based on the number of ballot votes from visitors to the estate in each category, with an overall winner receiving the People’s Choice Award and $200.
