VILLAS — A winter storm is likely to bring snow, high winds and areas of coastal flooding to much of Southern New Jersey beginning Fri. evening and going into Sun.
Lower Township Office of Emergency Management is monitoring this weekend’s winter storm event. Local OEM officials have been and will continue to be in touch with county Office of Emergency Management on the latest developments of the storm. All residents that live in areas prone to flooding are advised to seek alternate sheltering in advance of the storm’s arrival as the township is expected to have moderate back bay tidal flooding during high tides through Sun.
Also, OEM is advising residents to stay off area roadways during the storm to let emergency crews do their jobs on clearing debris/snow etc. The Township Office of Emergency Management is prepared to open Warming Centers/Shelters if events of the storm warrant.
In the event those that have extended power loss/heat loss and do not have alternate sheltering with family or friends may call Lower Township Police non-emergency number 609-886-2711 for directions for warming centers and/or municipal sheltering.
“In the event that we get a significant amount of snow, the plows and personnel are ready,” said Township Manager Jim Ridgway.
Ridgway said the Township has 20-plus pieces of equipment ready to deal with the forecasted snow, including plows and loaders.
Ridgway suggested that residents keep a physical list of emergency numbers, make sure mobile devices are charged and vehicles have a full tank of gas. If travel conditions become hazardous, use common sense decisions to stay safely off the road.
Cape May County has issued a Code Blue through Sunday, which means vouchers for hotels are available by calling the homeless hotline at 877-886-1325 or locally at 886-1325.
Shore Animal Control would also like to remind residents to please bring pets indoors during these hazardous weather conditions. Residents can call animal control for assistance at 1-800-351-1822.
In the event of an emergency, the Lower Township Police Department can be reached at 609-886-2711.
