LOWER TOWNSHIP – The Lower Township Public Safety Complex at the Cape May County Airport opened its doors for a preview Nov. 3.
The renovations to the Public Safety Building, located in the Cape May Airport, is part of a county project to revitalize the airport as a hub for businesses, tourism, industry and public safety.
Police Chief William Mastriana, Captain Martin Biersbach and Manager Jim Ridgway toured the renovated spaces in the township Public Safety Complex such as the detective offices and meeting room, the training center, evidence lockers and domestic violence counseling room in a preview of what the finished project will look like.
Police Chief William Mastriana said that renovated the building will house Lower Township Police Department, Lower Township Municipal Court, Lower Township Fire Safety Bureau, Lower Township Rescue and the new state of the art County Emergency Management and centralized county dispatch systems.
“It has been a little disruptive during construction,” said Chief Mastriana and noted that delays were due testing several newly installed state of the art public safety equipment. “We have had to make several moves within the building to allow for construction throughout several planes stages. Yet, we have made it work despite all this and with very minimal effect to the services provided to the General Public.”
The 48,000-square-foot building received repairs to the roof, major upgrades to the infrastructure and a design to maximize the space that each department would use. Also included in the plan is major roadway construction, additional office spaces and a newly landscaped airport entrance.
“We look forward to moving into the renovated portion of the building and the completion of the building,” said Mastriana.
The members of the public, local and county officials will be invited to a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at a later date.
