Lower Township Encourages Community in Show of Support for Police Department

CAPE MAY — Lower Township officials have asked area residents to show their support for the Lower Township police and other law enforcement by stopping by National Night Out to leave a message of thanks and appreciation, and then picking up a blue ribbon and blue light bulb to display at home or at a business.
The Blue Ribbon Challenge, part of a national movement to support law enforcement, has been embraced by local communities throughout Cape May County. Residents and visitors in Lower Township have shown support by putting out displays of blue lights on front porches and wearing blue ribbons. Township Hall has also been outfitted in a display of blue lights.
At Lower Township’s National Night on Tuesday Aug. 2 at the Cape May – Lewes Ferry Terminal , everyone is encouraged to stop by the township’s booth, which will be located next to the Lower Township Police Department’s booth, and pick up a blue light and a ribbon. The township will also have a “thank-you” poster for residents to sign and leave messages of encouragement and appreciation.
Anco Ace Hardware generously donated the blue lightbulbs for the event and they will be available while supplies last.
“There is a need to show support for the difficult and sometimes impossible job that police officers have,” Mayor Michael Beck said at a recent council meeting where the police department was honored in a proclamation. “As a community we should come together and publicly support our police.”
National Night Out in Lower Township will be held Aug. 2 at the Cape May – Lewes Ferry Terminal from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
There will be live music provided by Simo & Twelve:01 Band along with a DJ from 98.7 the Coast. There will be public safety displays, games, pony rides, dunk tank, inflatables, complimentary hot dogs, pizza, pig roast, refreshments and lots of family fun.
