SEA ISLE CITY – Traditionally, during the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission’s annual Spring Beach Clean-Up, over 100 volunteers help clear trash and debris from the resort’s shoreline. This year, during the April 25th Clean-Up, 220 individuals combed Sea Isle’s beaches and dunes with trash bags and data sheets in hand.
The data sheets, which were used to document what items were discovered during the Beach Clean-Up, will be sent to Clean Ocean Action in Highlands, NJ, to help pin-point any possible pollution issues.
In addition to earning the gratitude of the Environmental Commission – and Mother Nature – the volunteers also received free event tee shirts, provided courtesy of Approach Clothing Company on Landis Avenue, and a complimentary buffet luncheon, provided courtesy of Mike’s Seafood Market and Restaurant, located in Sea Isle’s historic Fish Alley. Additionally, local residents Christina and Warren Weiler, of Pleasure Avenue, donated cases of bottled water, which helped keep volunteers hydrated as they searched for unwanted debris on the sand.
“We are very happy that local businesses and other members of our community have approached us to support this important event,” said Environmental Commission Chairperson Annette Lombardo. “Every year, more and more people want to get involved in order to make Sea Isle’s Beach Clean-Up a success – and this year we had a record number of volunteers in attendance. We are very grateful to Mike’s Seafood, Approach Clothing Company, the Weiler family and all of the volunteers.”
