Local artists at Farmer’s Market

By On Deck Staff

The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery has been spotted at the West Cape May Farmer’s Market on Broadway behind the municipal building.
The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery, a group of 22 talented local artists, has teamed up with Center for Community Arts of Cape May to offer free community arts projects at the West Cape May Farmer’s Market on Tuesdays from 3-7:30 p.m.
The community has been very creative, collaborating on a works of art based on photography by local, award winning photographer, Tina Giaimo.
The pictures of grapes and peaches seemed a fitting subject for the Farmer’s Market.
“The photographs were enlarged on plain paper, then gridded and cut into squares. Each person, young or old, colored the square with oil pastels. Then the squares were glued to a canvas to create a beautiful work of community art,” explained Janet Payne.
There are brochures available for other programs that Center for Community Arts offers including, Art Camps for kids, Art at the Library, African American History Walking Tours and Art Classes for Adults.
The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery is the brainchild of Paige Cunningham and Janet Payne. The group joined together last November to promote local artists, have a venue for them to sell their work and educate the public about their art.
Each week at the Farmer’s Market artists display their work for sale. The public is invited to meet these talented local artists and discuss their work.
The Artists’ Cooperative Gallery will also be participating in Art in the Park on July 25 at Wilbraham Park on Perry Street in West Cape May.
