Local 4-H Members Participate in State Small Animal Show

COURT HOUSE – 4-H members from Cape May County participated in the New Jersey State 4-H Rabbit, Cavy, Small Animal, Herpetology & Poultry shows Sept. 10 at the Gloucester County 4-H Fairground in Mullica Hill.  Nearly 90 4-H members representing 12 counties (Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, and Salem) competed in judging, showmanship, breed identification as well as standard, breed and conformation classes in rabbit, cavy, small animal, poultry and herpetology divisions.
The five 4-H members from Cape May County that participated in the New Jersey State 4-H Rabbit, Cavy, Small Animal, Herpetology & Poultry shows are Trinity Hamann, Kelly Hunter, Lizzie Hunter, Cadence Golley and Allison Hamann.
Trinity Hamann won Grand Champion in Rabbit Best of Breeds for her English Lop.  She also placed 5^th in Senior Division Rabbit Judging and participated in the Experienced Grades 8 to 13 Division of Rabbit Showmanship.
Kelly Hunter won Grand Champion in Rabbit Best of Breeds for her Mini Satin.  She also won 4^th place in the Intermediate Grades 8 to 13 Division of Rabbit Showmanship and 3^rd place in the Senior Division of Rabbit Judging.
Lizzie Hunter received Reserve Champion in Rabbit Best of Breeds for her Mini Satin.  She won 6^th place in Rabbit Showmanship in the Intermediate Grades 5 to 7 Division and 4^th place in Rabbit Judging Junior Division.
Allison Hamann was the Grand Champion in Rabbit Judging Junior Division and won 5^th place in Rabbit Showmanship Intermediate Grades 5 to 7 Division.
Cadence Golley won Grand Champion in Rabbit Best of Breeds in the New Zealand Category.  She also placed 5^th in the Intermediate Grades 8 to 13 of Rabbit Showmanship and participated in Senior Division Rabbit Judging.
The animal show gave local 4-H’ers an opportunity to compete at an advanced level and meet other 4-H small animal project members from around the state.  “The 4-H members that attended this event are the best from each county because they have earned the right to participate in this state show by receiving excellent ratings for their animals at county level shows.” says Jeannette Rea Keywood, Rutgers Cooperative Extension 4-H Agent and State 4-H Small Animal Program Liaison. 
The NJ State 4-H Rabbit, Cavy, Small Animal, Herpetology & Poultry Show is coordinated by the State 4-H Small Animal Project Advisory Council and sponsored by many businesses and individuals from throughout the state.
The 4-H Youth Development Program is part of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, a unit of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station.  4-H educational programs are offered to all youth, grades K-13(one year out of high school), on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, marital status, domestic partnership status, military service, veteran status and any other category protected by law.
