Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst to Host 2016 Open House and Air Show

By Press Release

TRENTON – The nation’s only tri-service joint base, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is set to open its doors to the community May 14-15, 2016, for the 2016 ‘Power in the Pines’ Open House and Air Show. Gates open 9 a.m.; aerial performances begin at 11 a.m. with free admission and parking. This year’s featured performers are the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds perform expert aerial maneuvers
in their F-16 Fighting Falcons as headliners and part of an exciting sky
show that includes several aerial demonstrations. The United States Army
Golden Knights Jump Team performs daring parachute maneuvers as part of the show again this year. And we’ve added a new performer to the line-up: The
Breitling Jet Team takes to the sky for awe inspiring aerobatics as the
largest professional civilian jet team performing today.
The six vintage WWII aircraft of the GEICO Skytypers perform precision
flight maneuvers, where the diverse flying expertise of the team members
aligns perfectly with the unique components of their overall performance.
You’ll also see the F-18 Hornet Fighter Attack Aircraft in action as
well as a demonstration by the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF).
Open to the general public, ground displays including aircraft and other
military assets, military heritage displays, amusement zone for kids, food & beverage, and more are included in the free admission. Parking is also
free.
The Defense Department hosts open houses to enhance public awareness of
the military’s mission, equipment, facilities and personnel and to promote
positive community relations.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our community partners to our open
house and air show,” said Lt. Col. Pat Rayner, 2016 Open House and Air Show director. “This is a great opportunity to thank our community for their support and to showcase what goes on behind our gates and in our skies each day.”
Community members will have an opportunity to take a closer look at the
joint base’s global mobility, training and innovation capabilities and see a true joint and total force platform.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is the nation’s only tri-service joint base. It borders two of the largest counties in New Jersey, Ocean and Burlington. The base is the second largest employer in the State of New Jersey and contributes more than $6.9 billion in payroll to the economy. Active-duty, Reserve and Guard service members from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S.
Marine Corps, and U.S. Coast Guard ensure joint and total force integration by
training, supporting and sustaining installation and global contingency
operations. Together, we are uniquely capable of projecting air, land
and sea power in support of our nation’s defense.
