SOMERS POINT – An interfaith candlelight service of hope and healing will be Feb. 14, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Somers Point United Methodist, 223 Doran Avenue at Bethel Rd., Somers Point.
The service is being organized to mark the loss of individuals who have completed suicide. Idea comes in response to the loss of so many young people in this area. Groups in Atlantic County and Cape May County have united to organize this service. Representatives from many faiths are speaking at the service. At the end, individuals who want to light a candle in memory of a loved one may do so. Those individuals will have an opportunity to speak if they choose.
A representative from each police force in Atlantic and Cape May Counties has been invited also. We want to acknowledge and recognize that suicide affects the hearts of our first responders.
Following the service, there will be refreshments and local resources.
No cost to attend. Any offering collected will be used to support mental health counseling as well as suicide prevention in schools/communities.
