VILLAS – Joshua Kampmeier, 17, son of Wayne and Tina L. Harris of Villas, a member of Troop 87, Erma, and senior at Lower Cape May Regional High School, has completed his Eagle Scout project, an “Insect Hotel.”
The structure, located in the Garrett Family Wildlife Conservatory in Cold Spring, was created with the aid of Damon Noe, the conservatory’s critical lands manager. He thought the insect hotel would be considered a “perfect addition” to the area, according to a release.
The “hotel” is a six-foot structure made of cedar and a variety of different levels that include a variety of different natural materials to aid in the life cycle of different species of insects.
Assisted by adult volunteers and members of Troop 87, sponsored by Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Kampmeier organized funds and work parties to aid in the building and installation of the hotel.
Kampmeier has reached the last step in his journey to become an Eagle Scout and is ready to go before the Eagle Scout Board of Review and approval of the project.
Once approved, a Court of Honor and banquet will be held in his honor to celebrate the accomplishments that led him to the end of his scouting journey.
Kampmeier has earned 27 merit badges and is a junior firefighter. He also enjoys kayaking on the Mullica River.
He is enrolled as an intern with Cape May Marina where he is continuing his studies in Marine Mechanics to fulfill his career goal as a marine mechanic along with continuing his summer employment at Morey’s Pier Corp.
Kampmeier and his family acknowledge all the individuals and businesses that donated to make his Eagle Scout project become a reality.
