UPPER TOWNSHIP – The Historical Preservation Society of Upper Township will hold its next general meeting April 14, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Upper Branch of the Cape May County Library.
The speaker for the evening will be Mr. Bill Brown who will give a fascinating presentation on the Tuckahoe National Bank. Mr. Brown was the president of the bank for many years and he will give the inside information on its history. He will speak about various people and events that shaped the bank since its formation in 1907. The Tuckahoe National Bank the first and only bank in Upper Township for almost a century.
Mr. Brown will also briefly mention the Tuckahoe Building and Loan Association for which his father was the corporate secretary. This institution which was founded in 1870 (the second oldest S&L in the state) was responsible for the funding of many homes in the area. Bill was also president of this Building and Loan which was merged with Cape Savings Bank in 1974 after 104 years of operation.
All those in attendance at this meeting will have the opportunity to win a beautifully framed print of the historic Tuckahoe National Bank painted by noted local artist, Sue Rau of Palermo.
Light refreshments and the general membership meeting will follow the presentation.
