Help Address a Root Cause of Poverty

COURT HOUSE — Adults who lack adequate literacy skills are five times more likely to live in poverty. One in five adults in New Jersey reads, writes or speaks English at the 5th grade level or below. When literacy levels do not meet the requirements of the workplace, the results can be unemployment, under-employment and insufficient income to sustain a family. Literacy education is a key element in the fight against poverty.
Be part of the solution! Become a Literacy Volunteer. Tutor training classes have been scheduled in Atlantic and Cape May counties. Classes in Atlantic County will be held on five consecutive Tues. evenings, 6-9 p.m., beginning on Feb. 18 at the Atlantic County Utilities Authority’s Recycle Center. Classes in Cape May County will be held on five consecutive Wed. evenings, 6-9 p.m., beginning on April 23 at the Cape Technical School in Cape May Court House.
