Greetings from 4-H Program Coordinator Linda Horner

By Linda Horner

Welcome to the 4-H Fair!

The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program is pleased to welcome you and your family to a special anniversary edition of the 4-H Fair.

Fifty years ago a group of committed community leaders with a deep interest in the well being of our county’s youth formed the Cape May County 4-H Foundation.

Also in 1969, the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders generously purchased the land that is now our 4-H fairgrounds and leased it to the foundation for $1 a year for 50 years. Now here we are in 2019 with a brand new 50-year lease, celebrating 50 years of fairs on our beautiful fairgrounds.  We owe our gratitude to those folks with such foresight back then, and to the current members of the Cape May County 4-H Foundation, who continue to work hard to care for the grounds and ably guide the 4-H fair.

This year’s fair theme is “4-H Growing Bright Futures.” What a fitting theme for a fair with such a noble history of committed adults who continue to dedicate themselves to the futures of our youth. Thanks to those generations of volunteers, the Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program is still providing opportunities for bright futures 50 years later.

As you stroll our beautiful, shaded fairgrounds enjoying family fun and celebrating the accomplishments of our 4-H youth, please take a moment to stop and thank the hardworking 4-H foundation members and other volunteers who continue to carry out that wonderful legacy established 50 years ago.

Sincerely,

Linda Horner
