Greetings from 4-H Program Coordinator Linda Horner

By

It is with pleasure that the Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program welcomes you to the Cape May County 4-H Fair!
I am excited to introduce this year’s 4-H Fair theme, “4-H…Celebrating Community!” Community is one of the most important elements of the 4-H program. Since the very beginnings of 4-H in 1902, the nation’s largest youth organization has worked to instill the idea of giving back to the community into its youth and adult volunteers. Today, our youth members here in Cape May County carry out community service in many helpful ways. Club members clean beaches and roadways, entertain nursing home residents, make colorful pillowcases for pediatric cancer patients, collect and wrap holiday gifts for needy children, and help out with other organization’s charitable efforts. These are just a few of the many ways that 4-Hers give back to their neighbors here in Cape May County each and every year.
This second part of this year’s theme is “celebrating.” That’s just what 4-H is doing as three of the youth organization’s most important partners celebrate important anniversaries. The first is the County of Cape May, which this year marks an incredible 325th birthday! The second is the 50th birthday of the very paper you are reading, the Cape May County Herald. The third is Atlantic Cape Community College, also celebrating a 50th anniversary. We are honored to call these three vital organizations friends and partners, and we salute their continuing success and contributions to the citizens of our county.
So, come stroll through our beautiful, shady fairgrounds and enjoy the many sights, sounds and experiences our 4-H Fair has to offer. At one end of the fairgrounds, the Lockwood 4-H Youth Center contains the annual showcase of our 4-H members’ accomplishments throughout the year, a sensational Maker Space brought to you by the Cape May County Library and brand new hands-on activities presented by our 4-H clubs. At the other end you will find exciting exhibitions and competitions by our horse and livestock project members. In between there is tantalizing chicken bar-b-que, excellent local entertainment, a variety of vendors and activities for young and old.
Come visit us at the 4-H Fair July 20, 21 and 22 and help 4-H “celebrate community.” We look forward to seeing you.
Linda Horner
