COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family and Community Health Sciences’ Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group (GRG) will meet Aug. 14.
According to a release, the free information session will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) of Cape May County, 355 Courthouse-South Dennis Road, Court House.
A light supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the program will follow at 6 p.m.
The annual “Back to School Bash” program of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group, will focus on healthy snack and lunch planning for the school year.
Grandchildren are welcome and they will have fun activities to do as well as enjoy dinner with their grandparents.
The GRG Meeting will be facilitated by Chris Zellers, interim, part-time, Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Educator.
Zellers is filling the vacancy left by Marilou Rochford’s retirement. She brings her knowledge and passion for nutrition and wellness education to RCE along with her desire to serve the community.
Zellers is no stranger to Cape May County or RCE, having worked as a consultant educator for FCHS and also started the SNAP-Ed program for the university in Cape May County. She also serves as the coordinator for Atlantic Prevention Resources Quit Center.
Zellers plans to continue the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group while also adding new programming of interest to the community.
She stated, “I am honored to continue this much-needed program that has been helping grandparents raising their grandchildren in Cape May County for 20 years by providing them with information, resources, and support to help them succeed.”
New families are always welcome to attend. There is no charge for this program, however, advanced registration is required by Aug. 9, 2019. call Call Marian at (609) 465-5115, ext. 3609 for information or to register for the program.
Additional Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group meetings are scheduled for Sept. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, and Dec. 10, 2019.
