Governor Christie Orders Flags Lowered to Half-Staff in Honor of NJ State Police Lieutenant

TRENTON — Dec. 29, 2016, Governor Chris Christie signed the following Executive Order:
Executive Order No. 218 – Ordering all State buildings to fly flags at half-staff on Sat., Dec. 31, 2016, in recognition of the life and in mourning of the passing of New Jersey State Police Lieutenant William G. Fearon.
Born in Kearny, New Jersey, Lieutenant Fearon graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange, and lived in Cedar Grove. Lieutenant Fearon joined the State Police as a graduate of the 114th Class of the New Jersey State Police Academy on Sept. 23, 1994, where he served in various positions in the State Police throughout his distinguished twenty-two year career, including as an Assistant Division Operations Officer and as an Assistant Station Commander. On Dec. 28, 2016, Lieutenant Fearon passed away after a long battle with an illness he contracted in the line of duty while responding to the World Trade Center terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
“Lieutenant Fearon was a loving and devoted husband, son, and father, whose memory will live in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow members of the New Jersey State Police,” said Governor Chris Christie. “He served his State with courage, professionalism, and commitment to the finest ideals and traditions of the New Jersey State Police. It is with deep sadness that we mourn the loss of Lieutenant Fearon, and we extend our sincerest sympathy to his family and loved ones.”
