On Jan. 1, 2014 the GED Testing Service will introduce an updated version of the Official GED Test, aligning the test with the Common Core Standards, the educational goals for all United States high school students. These Common Core Standards, adopted nationwide, are designed to ensure that US high school graduates will be equipped with the skills needed for success in the 21st Century. The newer, computerized version of the GED test will feature drop-down menus and essays in both Social Studies and Writing
Until the Jan., 2014 introduction of the new tests, students who have taken the GED Test and passed some, but not all of the sub-sections, will still be able to re-test in the failed sections to accommodate an overall passing score. Scores from successfully completed sections will carry over only until Dec. 31, 2013. Beyond that date, students that have tested and not passed all sub-sections will need to take all sections of the test again under the revised testing format.
Many students may perceive the upcoming changes incorporated in the new version of the GED Test, as well as its computerized format, as more challenging than the current version. The Cape May County Technical School District GED Test Prep Program is therefore recommending that individuals, who have considered getting a GED Test associated credential, enroll in classes now!
