A fundraising event is planned to support “Operation Osprey Ocean City” at the Ocean City Yacht Club on Wednesday, May 20 from 6:30 to 9:30pm.
The mission of Operation Osprey is to further the partnership between Ocean City and The Wetlands Institute to promote the Bayside Center’s exhibits and programs and to promote field trips and educational activities in order to instill a greater appreciation of our coastal environment to the residents and visitors of Ocean City.
“We are pleased to continue to expand our partnership with The Wetlands Institute,” said Mayor Sal Perillo. “Their experience, combined with our existing programs and facilities are a perfect match. We both benefit by expanding and improving the environmental education that is currently being offered in Ocean City.”
This event will showcase the architectural plans for that have been prepared by Asher Associates Architects, LLC for exciting renovations to the Bayside Center. Plans include an open exhibit area and increased meeting space.
Included will be refreshments, light fare, and a silent action that features gift certificates from numerous Ocean City retail shops and restaurants. Ambassador William J. Hughes is the Honorary Chairman of the event.
The Wetlands Institute has already installed a wireless osprey nest cam which is powered by the sun and enables visitors to the Bayside Center to watch a nearby Osprey nest.
Beginning in 2008, The Wetlands Institute started to provide school program offerings including an Ecology Program at the Bayside Center.
In addition to this program, they also improved the exhibits at the Bayside Center, including a touch tank featuring local marine life. The Bayside Center is located at 520 Bay Ave. and is opened daily during the summer season.
The Wetlands Institute will also be adding to Ocean City’s summer environmental camp programs at the Bayside Center. Information on the camps can be found by visiting ocnj.us/recreation.
The Wetlands Institute will also continue to join the Ocean City Environmental Commission on the boardwalk this summer during Family Night Thursdays.
A portable touch tank will be displayed at the Music Pier. Families strolling the boardwalk will be able to meet the seastars, whelks, crabs and urchins that they have been sharing the beach with.
For tickets, contact The Wetlands Institute at 609-368-1211 or the Ocean City Recreation Department at 609-525-9301.
