Cape May County Healthy Community Coalition will present free movie nights May 2 and May 16, featuring “Resilience: The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope” in Ocean City and Stone Harbor.
The movie educates about toxic stress, how it can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at risk for disease, substance abuse, homelessness, prison time, and even early death. Resilience chronicles the dawn of a movement that is determined to fight back.
The film explores the concept of how a childhood trauma affects a child’s development, “The child may not remember, but the body remembers.”
“This documentary would be beneficial to parents, guardians, and anyone who works with children,” stated Kim Mounce, Cape Assist, senior coalition coordinator, in a release. “Childhood trauma can harm a child’s brain. It may cause a child to have trouble learning or forming healthy relationships, and it may increase the likelihood of drug and alcohol misuse and other long-term health problems.”
On May 2, doors open at 5:30 p.m., movie begins at 6 p.m., and a question and answer session will be from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Ocean City Tabernacle (parking is available on the street and on the Tabernacle’s grass), 550 Wesley Ave., Ocean City.
On May 16, doors open at 9:30 a.m., movie begins at 10 a.m., and a question and answer session will be from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Harbor Square Theater, 271 96th St., Stone Harbor.
