SOMERS POINT – Community and business leaders came out in support of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Atlantic and Cape May Counties June 25 at the Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point for the 2nd Annual FORE CASA Kids Golf Tournament presented by NorthMarq Advisors. The golf tournament raised nearly $50,000 to help recruit, train and support community volunteers who advocate for children living in foster care in Atlantic and Cape May Counties.
“Go blue for CASA helps us raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month and the 1,000 children living in foster care in Atlantic and Cape May Counties,” stated CASA Executive Director Angie Waters. “We were grateful to the golfers and sponsors who help sell out this tournament and to the Greate Bay staff who make sure that the tournament runs smoothly.
“We want everyone to have a great round, and to learn more about how CASA volunteers help children living in foster care. It is essential for the public to understand how vital it is for a child in foster care to have a CASA volunteer.”
“Currently, CASA serves 65 percent of the children living in foster care in Atlantic and Cape May Counties,” stated CASA Board President E. David Hieb. “Our ultimate goal is to have a CASA for every child who needs one, so we must continue to expand our volunteer recruitment to meet those needs.
“Right now, more than 35 percent of the children who live in foster care do not have a CASA volunteer, that trusted advocate who is fighting for and defending their rights. FORE CASA Kids helps us raise much-needed operating funds, but it also helps us stay connected to the community and encourages others to get involved. Providing advocacy for children living in foster care is definitely a community effort.”
