VILLAS – With high demand for services, local food banks are feeling the pinch.
“I’ve asked the people of this community on several occasions to step up and help the less fortunate during these tough economic times with donations of non-perishable foods and they have always stepped up.” said Lower Township Manager Mike Voll.
A barrel in the lobby of Township Hall is available for food donations at 2600 Bayshore Rd, Villas. Township Hall is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Items such as powdered milk, peanut butter, jelly, canned meat and beans, spaghetti sauce and instant oatmeal are always needed.
Food donations will be collected by Lower Township Rescue Squad and distributed to the St. Barnabas by-the-Bay Church and Seashore Community Church of the Nazarene food pantries.
Those who prefer to make a cash donation in lieu of proving non-perishable food may make checks payable to Lower Township Rescue Squad noting “food bank,” in the memo section.
“The rescue squad will use the donations to purchase food during these tough economic times,” said Voll.
