COURT HOUSE – The first chili cookoff was held at Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Feb. 7. Employees competed for four trophies awarded by the celebrity judging panel, which included Freeholder Jeffrey Pierson and former administrator Linda Thornton.
Residents, staff and guests sampled each chili and cast their vote for their favorite recipe. Resident Council President, Barbara Sessa, said she had never judged a chili cookoff before.
“That was a lot of fun and I loved the music and decorations,” stated Sessa in a release. Resident Margaret Vignola said the chilis were “delicious, except for that hot one. Wow!” she said with big eyes.
Competition is expected to be fierce at next year’s event. Social worker, Quanette Vasser, won the coveted People’s Choice Award.
“This was my first time competing in a chili contest. We had a lot of fun watching the taste testers and listening to their remarks,” stated Vasser. Adding, “In the end, the people spoke and voted my signature five-bean chili as best in the house!” That sounds like a challenge for Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation cooks!
