COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family and Community Health Sciences’ Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will meet on the third Wednesday of the month in 2018. The free information sessions will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, 355 Courthouse-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey. The building is handicap accessible. The first meeting of the new year will take place Jan. 17, 2018.
Marilou Rochford, Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Educator, said, “FCHS has been providing educational and social support to grandparents, in Cape May County, who are caregivers for their grandchildren since 1999 and new families are always welcome.” Rochford added, “ We strive to provide a variety of educational programs, strengthen family relationships, share community resources and help to improve the quality of life for our families.”
Different topics are offered throughout the year based on the current needs and interests expressed by our grandparents. Program topics include: Custody, Adoption, and Guardianship, Communication, Parenting, Health, Nutrition, and Wellness, Bullying, Cyber Safety, Drug and Alcohol Abuse and more.
Childcare is provided for the grandchildren. A light supper will be served at 5:30p.m. and the program will follow at 6 p.m. There is no charge for the program, however, advanced registration is required. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group meets the third Wednesday of every month, except for the months of June and July when there are no scheduled meetings. Support for this program is provided by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Cape May County Division of Aging and Disability Services, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension. Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County educational programs are offered to all without regard to race, religion, color, age, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.
