VILLAS — The day was balmy, so Lefty and Kate Aguilar took a walk on the Delaware Bay beach here April 11.
As they strolled along the water’s edge, they found an odd metal device, and took the safe route: they contacted Lower Township Police.
Once police saw the silvery device they summoned the Atlantic City Bomb Squad, which traveled to the bayfront and safely recovered the device.
Police warned all pedestrians away from the beach where the device was found.
Aguilar told the Herald his cousin is in the Army. “I texted him and sent him a picture. He said it looked like a mine.”
Lower Township Police Lt. Thomas Beeby told the Herald the bomb squad took Xrays of the device then took it away for safe disposal.
