Two Teens to Skateboard Length of NJ in Fundraising Quest

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – On August 10, two teens, Danny Brooks and Edwin Zhang, will begin their grueling seven-day journey skateboarding from High Point State Park, N.J., all the way down to Cape May, N.J., to complete their goal of raising $20,000 for childhood cancer.
Titling the trip “Skate Cape May,” the two co-founders will raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a national fundraising movement to support childhood cancer, by selling lemonade, t-shirts, wrist bands, and raffle tickets, while spreading awareness of their trip and the fundraising cause at their stops each day. Brooks and Zhang will end each day of the trip at the Rita’s Italian Ice store in each of the towns where they are stopping for the day.
The skateboarders will be stopping at the following towns:
•8/10/11 : Beginning in High Point State Park, Stopping in Newton, NJ
•8/11/11 : Chester, NJ
•8/12/11 : Hightstown, NJ
•8/13/11 : Toms River, NJ
•8/14/11 : Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ
•8/15/11 : Northfield, NJ
•8/16/11 : Cape May, NJ
After a successful journey in 2010, the two high school seniors plan to change things up by encouraging local communities to come skate with them on certain legs of the journey. Skaters can join the boys from one town to the next. The Skate Cape May team is asking participating skaters for a small donation to Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Each leg of the journey is between 20 and 50 miles, but any skateboarder older than 18 is welcome to join them for any distance. The Skate Cape May team is encouraging everyone from the local communities to support them at each of their stops.
“We hope that by having others join us in our journey, it will demonstrate the difference a community unified under a good cause – the fight against cancer – can make, said Edwin Zhang, co-founder of Skate Cape May. “We hope to inspire others to follow suit by channeling their own individual talents or passions and using them to make a positive difference in their community.”
The 2011 Skate Cape May trip is sponsored by a variety of businesses, including Aina Clothing, Mile High Skates, Paris Trucks, Divine Wheels Co, Vox Footwear, Republic of Frends, DaddiesBoardShop, Function Drinks and Kracked Skulls Skateboards. The companies will assist the teens by providing needed equipment for the trip. The sponsors are donating shoes, shirts, skateboard trucks and wheels for raffle prizes at each of the lemonade stand stops as well.
