Philadelphia, PA – On Saturday, March 20, eight blind and visually impaired children had a wonderful time as they cut and peeled vegetables, mixed ingredients for homemade lasagna, coating strawberries and also almonds with warm melted chocolate and, generally, got their hands “dirty” cooking at Joe Palombo’s Mirabella Café in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Arranged through The Little Rock Foundation, Cooking without Looking was the first workshop designed to teach blind and visually impaired children the real world experience of cooking.
Because of the children’s enthusiasm, Cooking without Looking will become an annual event presented by The Little Rock Foundation, the foundation formed 12 years ago by Tina and Rocco Fiorentino, Voorhees, and named after their son, Rocco, who is totally blind due to Retinopathy of Prematurity.
The Little Rock Foundation has two Little Rock Family Resource Centers at Children’s Hospital and at Wills Eye Hospital, Camp Little Rock (a free day camp for children who are blind or visually impaired), scholarship and outreach programs.
