Tech Senior Qualifies as National Merit Scholar Semifinalist

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Bethany Sneathen, a senior at Cape May Tech , is a semifinalist in the competition to become a National Merit Scholarship winner in 2012.
According to the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, approximately 16,000 of the 1.5 million entrants were selected as a Semifinalist. High school juniors enter the scholarship program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) in October of their junior year.
To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
Over 90% of the Semifinalists are expected to advance to the Finalist level and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship. Ultimately these academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to compete for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $34 million to be offered in spring.
National Merit Scholarship winners of 2012 will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July.
