VILLAS — This secret Santa began giving away the contents of his store two weeks ago and two days before Christmas, he has toys and clothes remaining and wants to hear from those in need.
Yes, there is a Santa Claus on Virginia Avenue and Bayshore Road in Villas.
The owner of Bargains Galore, at 1301 Bayshore Road, is a secret Santa. He wishes to remain anonymous but he wants to give away the contents of his store to local charities and needy families.
This secret Santa opened his store in Villas two years ago when the economy was much stronger. Villas seems to be bearing the full brunt of the current recession with a number of businesses shuttered and up for sale.
He will close his doors permanently no later than the end of the month.
Bargains Galore is sort of a high-end dollar store and even features Disney clothing. He has already given away clothes and dolls to two local charities.
Why give it away instead of just selling his store full of merchandise? The store is having a 50 to 75 percent off sale but this secret Santa said he was just as happy to give the items to bonafide charities.
The Herald put him in touch with a number of Lower Township organizations and United Way.
“God told me to give it away, he said.
Four years ago, his home burned to the ground and he and his children lost everything. Through the kindness of others, they received donations that put them back on their feet and this secret Santa wishes to do the same thing.
“A lot of folks helped me and I want to give back,” he said.
The store has plenty of plates, glassware and kitchen items for someone else who may have lost all in a fire.
There are canned vegetables, cleaning products, soda and a number of item children would enjoy still on the shelves.
As the far as the future, this secret Santa is not worried. He said, he believes God will provide.
