Seek Signatures for Impeachment, Special Prosecutor

By Helen McCaffrey

COURT HOUSE – Anyone driving Route 9 could not miss the large billboard display, table and assorted cardboard signs displayed June 25 just out front of Wawa on South Main Street. And no one could mistake the message: “Impeach Obama” and “Restore Glass-Stegall.” The latter referred to the Glass-Stegall Act, passed after the Great Depression. It separated investment and commercial banking activities. The act was repealed in 1999.
The table was staffed by Howard Allred and Jeff Rebellow. “The Clintons have broken with Obama and he is politically finished,” said Allred. The men were there to gather signatures for a petition demanding that a special prosecutor and select committee be appointed to investigate what they view as a cover-up of Benghazi.
That refers to the Sept. 11, 2012 assassination of U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three Americans protecting him in Benghazi, Libya. They want Americans to stay out of foreign wars, restore the gold standard and rebuild the nation. Additionally, they want President Barack Obama impeached.
Their day started at 10 a.m. and by 5 p.m. they had garnered 34 signatures but said they had many more inquiries. Some people were afraid to sign their names.
They also had their detractors. “Some people, especially in cars, gave us the finger and shouted stuff but a lot more were supportive,” said Rebellow.
They were here for one day and then back to Hackensack. They didn’t know when they would be back so anyone who did not sign might not get another chance to do so.
