Quilters Awarded Ribbons at Wings ‘n Water Festival

STONE HARBOR — Several local quilters were recognized recently at the Wetlands Institute’s Wings ‘n Water Festival quilt show. Visitors voted for their favorite large and small quilt for the Viewer’s Choice ribbons and ribbons were awarded in several other categories as well.
Viewer’s Choice Awards: first place large quilt, Wild Wings, Kathy Weaver, Wilmington, DE; second, Magic Vine, Flora Carlberg, Cape Coral, FL. first place, small quilt, Sunset Reflections, Jean Hulting, Birch-wood, WN.; second, Let’s Go Swimming, Corinne Johnson, Cape May Court House.
Quilter’s Choice Award: Magic Vine, Flora Carlberg, Cape Coral, Fla.
Honorable Mention: large quilt, Delaware Bay, Ben Crisman, Stone Harbor; small quilt, Mother Goose, Janet Kerry, Stone Harbor; small quilt, Baby Heck, Phil Heck, Court House.
New Quilter: tote bag, Emily Parla, age 10, W. Roxbury, Mass.
The Wetlands Quilters meet Tuesday afternoons at the Wetlands Institute to make a quilt that is raffled in De-cember at the Quilters Dinner.
The group also makes quilts that are auctioned off at the Wings ‘n’ Water cocktail party/auction and all money raised helps fund the education programs at the Institute.
Marion Glaspey established the quilting group over 20 years ago and this year’s quilt, Turtle Release, is the 29th quilt made for this purpose.
