NORTH WILDWOOD — Brandi Sanguinetti said that she has always set her personal expectations high.
But it still came as a surprise when the 18-year-old valedictorian of this year’s graduating class at Wildwood High School grasped hold of another lofty goal. On July 14 she was crowned Miss Cape May County, a preliminary pageant that could lead to the title of Miss New Jersey.
“I’ve done a few other pageants before,” Sanguinetti said. “This was my sixth.”
The newly acquired crown comes with certain responsibilities, such as parades and appearances, which she said are already filling her dwindling summer schedule.
So between her shifts as a waitress at Adam’s Restaurant, Sanguinetti remarked that she’s especially excited about attending Ocean City’s Night in Venice boat parade, which she has never been to before, and riding in Wild-wood’s baby parade.
But when she’s not presiding over county functions, waiting on tables or spending time with friends and family, Sanguinetti will be pack-ing and preparing for her first college semester at the College of New Jersey.
“I’ve never lived any-where else,” said Sanguinetti, who has grown up in this city. “My sisters when to college, but I’ll be the first kid in my family who has actually gone away to school.”
Moving to the campus in Trenton is a feat she is proud of, but admit-tedly a little nervous about.
“I haven’t met my roommate yet,” she added.
Meeting new people and going to a new school is a challenging experience, but she added, that she “always wanted something challenging.”
Sanguinetti said she plans to major in political science and later study law.
“I’ve always been involved in activities, so much so that it almost becomes your life, but my driving force has been to stay focused,” Sanguinetti said. “I set a goal and focus on it.”
