COURT HOUSE — Middle Township High School went global Thur., May 19 with its fifth annual culture fair.
The festival, with lots of exotic foreign tasty treats to sample, was like strolling through Europe.
A French camera crew, which reportedly filmed at the start of the year, returned to film progress made, especially in the French classrooms.
The event included the entire school and acknowledged the achievements of all students.
Members of the Jazz Band performed under the direction of Richard Sterling.
Other music students performed piano solos; and architectural skills of students studying Shakespeare recreated models of Globe Theater.
Goal of the evening was “to share stories, commemorate cultural diversity and reveal connections between the past and present by including as many people as possible,” according to the program.
In the other section of the school, the World of Wood crafting and martial arts were demonstrated.
Members of Jersey Cape Dance and Gymnastics Academy, under supervision of Stina Smith, performed a revised version of the 15-year-old “Suffer the Innocent” based on the Holocaust when children were torn from their families as they were sent to concentration camps by Nazis.
A question and answer session after the performance reassured the audience that dancers were trained on how to fall, so they would not harm themselves, and that bruises and bloody scars were simulated to make a dramatic impression.
