COURT HOUSE — The officers and members of Middle Township Ambulance Corps invite the public to its 50th anniversary celebration June 14 from noon until 3 p.m.
The community which has supported and made possible the volunteer corps’ existence, is being asked by Deb Rue, president, to join the milestone occasion at Route 9 and Bennett Road.
Rue said it is one of the few volunteer rescue squads that have lasted half a century.
Following a gala ceremony, which is to include local officials and First District legislators, refreshments, including free hamburgers, hot dogs and soda will be served.
Volunteers from throughout the town constructed the original one-bay squad building. Prior to that, the ambulance was kept at a local car dealership.
One of its features was a fallout shelter, erected at the height of the Cold War when the nation feared a nuclear attack from Russia.
Since that time, the building has expanded to its present size.
