Local Cadet Team Wins Regional Competition

By Herald Staff

ERMA — Civil Air Patrol Dragon Drill Team was victorious at a recent North East Regional Cadet Competition.
Over Memorial Day weekend, CAP Cadets Dylan Rutherford and Michael Quinn of the Cape May County Composite Squadron, members of the CAP NJ Wing Dragon Drill Team, participated with their fellow cadets from around the state at the Northeast Regional Cadet Competition at the Westover Reserve AFB in Chicopee, Mass.
The annual competition tests cadets on academics, team sports, uniform inspection and drill (silent, innovative and compulsory.)
The NJ Dragon Drill Team, headquartered at McGuire AFB, won first honors in six out of seven categories.
The team will now move on with the honor to represent the CAP Northeast Region at the CAP National Cadet Competition.
This year’s NCC is to be held in McMinnville, Ore. from July 9-13.
CAP’s cadet program trains young men and women in teamwork, moral leadership, aerospace education and technical skills to support emergency services and military history and customs.
Through national encampments, a college and flight training scholarship program, and the International Air Cadet Exchange, CAP cadets broaden their horizons, learn to assume responsibility, feel self-confident and set goals for their future.
The Cape May Squadron meets every Thursday night at the Cape May Airport Terminal Building, 2nd Floor, in Erma. Doors open at 6 p.m. for testing, mentoring, Color Guard and Honor Guard practice.
