GOSHEN – St. Elizabeth Church, a mission church of Our Lady of the Angels, Court House, celebrated the 100th birthday of Eleanor Fabiano March 19.
Fabiano will celebrate her natal day March 25 and is a long-time member of St. Elizabeth Church and resident of South Dennis since 1985.
The Mass was offered for Fabiano with the entire church congregation singing “Happy Birthday” and presenting the centenarian with flowers.
After Mass, family and church members gathered to celebrate with cake, coffee and lots of hugs.
Born in Philadelphia in 1917, Fabiano moved to Cape May County after her career as a biology teacher in Newark. She has always been extremely active with the community including the Girl Scouts, volunteer income tax preparer for seniors, and tutor with the Literacy Volunteers of America.
Fabiano loves writing and hosts a memoir writing group in her home.
Fabiano says the secret to longevity is to “keep breathing.” Her friends and family think that her extremely active lifestyle helps too. Daughter, Lisa Salimbene boasts proudly about her mom, “She is the most generous of spirits and a humble woman.”
Fabiano talks about the changes she has seen in her lifetime explaining that technology is the biggest. “The fact that someone can give me directions” (from a computer or phone in the car) is one of her favorite technological advances.
Fabiano was overwhelmed with the birthday celebration. “People have been so nice,” she exclaimed with a smile.
