CAPE MAY – Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) outgoing 2nd Vice President Jerry Reeves received congratulations from MAC Director Michael Zuckerman and Board President Doug McMain upon receiving the 2012 MAC Honor Award during MAC’s Annual Meeting Nov. 11 at the Cape May Lutheran Church, 509 Pittsburgh Ave., Cape May.
For 18 of the past 19 years, Reeves has served with distinction on MAC’s board of directors, including two three-year stints as treasurer and six years as vice president. He has played a major role in helping steer MAC through the “go-go” growth years of the ’90s and the challenging decade that followed. His contributions to MAC have been split almost equally between his external role as a banker and his internal leadership position. Even before joining the MAC board, Reeves, then with Marine National Bank, secured the crucial loan in 1987 that MAC needed to install public safety improvements in the Cape May Lighthouse, enabling MAC to open the tower to the public. Thereafter, in his long career at Sturdy Savings Bank, where he is currently the CEO, Reeves helped finance trollies, computer systems and other major capital purchases, as well as MAC’s annual seasonal line of credit. He also encouraged Sturdy to become one of MAC’s most generous and dependable grant funders. Perhaps his most visible legacy stems from his passion for Model T Fords. When he discovered that Cape May’s Victorian era citizen, Dr. Emlen Physick, owned a 1915 version, he made it his mission to track down an identical model, which led him to a barn in California. In 2001, he helped MAC purchase, move and refurbish the vehicle, which is now a popular attraction on the front drive of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., Cape May, and guest-curated an exhibit, “Mr. Ford and his Model T,” in MAC’s Carriage House Gallery in 2003 that featured one of the Model T’s and associated artifacts that he and his father had collected.
The Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) is a multifaceted not-for-profit organization committed to promoting the preservation, interpretation, and cultural enrichment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors. MAC membership is open to all. For information about MAC’s year-round schedule of tours, festivals, and special events call 609-884-5404 or 800-275-4278, or visit MAC’s Web site at www.capemaymac.org.
