It wasn’t exactly swimming weather, but the sun shone brightly on hardy souls who braved the cold water at the Sixth Avenue beach for a good cause.
On Saturday, March 20, dozens waited for the signal, and then ran a gamut of spectators to the water. Some plunged, but then ran just as quickly for the shelter of blankets and towels.
The good cause was sponsored by the Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge 1896: raising money to renovate the Children’s Fresh Air Home on Atlantic Avenue which, since 1896, has been treating disadvantaged kids to a beach vacation.
North Wildwood Mayor Bill Henfey said, “This event—brand new this year–is a great addition to our schedule. And restoring the Children’s Home will allow many more kids to benefit in many ways from a shore vacation.”
