Fundraiser Held for 3-Year-Old Leukemia Patient

By Helen McCaffrey

RIO GRANDE – The guest of honor, 3-year-old Logan Beaudoin-Thrasher, was unable to attend but dozens of family and friends were present at Five Guys Restaurant. The occasion was held to raise money for the Love For Logan Fund. His grandmothers, Jodie Beaudoin and Ruth Maniscalco, were present and spoke of how their grandson had not been feeling well for over a month before being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Beaudoin-Thrasher was sent to Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia where he has been receiving chemotherapy. Maniscalco said that Logan had a month of treatment and then two weeks off. He still needs three more treatments. His grandfather Charles “Chuck” Beaudoin, Jr. said his grandson is “a trooper. The port and devices don’t seem to bother him. He’s dealing well with it.”
Beaudoin-Thrasher’s 13-year-old uncle Ryan Casey can’t wait until his nephew is well enough to play football with him again. His aunt Cortnee Thrasher cut off all her waist-length hair to show solidarity with her nephew. She now sports a pixie do.
Grandmother Beaudoin, who works at Crest Haven Nursing Home, said that Beaudoin-Thrasher’s parents “are very strong.”
Everyone is confident that he will have a complete recovery, but there are expenses.
The child’s parents had to switch insurance companies and many of expenses are not covered.
The family created a Facebook page to make people aware and help collect needed funds. They also decided to do a fundraiser at a local venue.
Kenneth Hewitt, who was the manager at the event, said when they heard about the child the establishment was only too happy to help. A percentage of the sales were donated to the Love For Logan Fund. Specially-made bracelets were also for sale.
Beaudoin-Thrasher has a 4-year-old brother, Landon, and a baby is due in August. Beaudoin-Thrasher has a long road ahead but he will not be travelling it alone.
