By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – Freeholder E. Marie Hayes and the Board of Chosen Freeholders recognized Zachery Peterson, of Boy Scout Troop 56 in Dennisville, at their meeting on Oct. 8, 2013. Peterson, a 17 year-old senior at Middle Township High School, completed his Eagle Scout project at the Cape May County Park.
Peterson designed and coordinated the development of a cross country course on the park grounds. The course at the Park is used by Middle Township High School and the Cape May County Technical High School during the cross country season plus is host to the Big Five and Cape May County Cross Country Championships.
Peterson, along with his fellow scouts and other volunteers, raised money to set up a detailed course in the park that includes a main map of the course on a weather resistant sign at the beginning of the course, over 80 directional signs throughout the course, mile markers indicating distances along the course and a map handout of the course for distribution.
Freeholder Hayes said, “Peterson completed a very worthwhile and needed project for the park system. His efforts will make it easier for groups interested in using the park for 5k and other track events in the future. We thank him for all his hard work.”
In addition to his volunteer efforts at the park, Peterson presented the Freeholders with a donation for the Park & Zoo in the amount of $150.
