This is a six-week interactive learning experience entitled Active Parenting of Teens: 3rd edition. The purpose is to provide training and support for families experiencing the dynamic changes of teen development and to help parents and other caregivers prepare teens and preteens to survive and thrive in a democratic society. Parents raising teens or preteens from fifth through twelfth grades are encouraged to attend this educational series.
Parents will learn information and skills including active cooperative styles of parenting, brain research on teen development, and an emphasis on character development, especially qualities of courage, cooperation, respect, responsibility, and self-esteem. At the same time, parents will be utilizing new skills to handle behavior problems and enhance family satisfaction. These skills include discipline, communication, problem solving, family enrichment and encouragement. Parents can use this knowledge to persuade and prevent teens from the dangers of involvement in drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and violence.
