WHITESBORO — South Jersey Triathlon Club and Middle Township Taxpayers Association will be at the Martin Luther King Community Center, West Main St. Thur., Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. to give away bicycle helmets to local children in need of one.
There will be a basketball camp going on at that time.
The Taxpayers Association and Triathlon Club are sponsoring the helmet giveaway, according to President Barbara Cresse. The group also received donations from Carl Arenberg and some of the remaining proceeds from a run for Robbie Wunder went to purchase 100 helmets.
The New Jersey laws require children 17 and under on bicycles to wear a helmet. Additionally, the laws for automobiles also apply to cyclists.
Bicyclists are all too aware of the potential hazards in cycling.
Children are three times more likely to sustain head injuries due to cycling mishaps than football or baseball.
The association encourages safe cycling habits and awareness in the community.
