SEA ISLE CITY – Father’s Day was an extra special day for the Mannion/Mahon family June 19. About 190 family members joined coming as far as China for their 31st annual family reunion.
Not only was the family happy to be united, but nine of its members were honored with handmade quilts from South Jersey Quilts of Valor. All nine veterans of wars received a special “thank you” quilt for their service which ranged from Korea to Vietnam and Afghanistan.
Liz Barrett of South Jersey Quilts of Valor, a national program honoring veterans for service to the nation, presented each veteran with a quilt. Each quilt was signed with the name of the recipient and draped over the veteran’s shoulder during a brief presentation on the beach.
The entire family gathered on the oceanfront at 65th Street and took an entire street block playing in the surf and sand.
The family reunion has taken place in Sea Isle City since 1985 and annually grows with more family members joining the festivities.
T-shirts were made, family portraits were taken, and the family joined together enjoying the shore.
