Eleven-year-old Honored as State’s Youngest Ham Operator

Hunter Gibbs

By

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – While Hunter Gibbs is not a Cape May County resident, his 11-year-old voice travels far.
On Feb. 11, Gibbs was honored for being one of the youngest amateur radio operators in the state.
One of those presenters was Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-1st) who presented a state proclamation and spoke highly of the lad’s accomplishments.
Vince Jones, director of public safety for Atlantic County, gave Gibbs a certificate and announced that Feb. 12 would be Hunter Gibbs Day in that county.
The awards were presented at the Southern Counties Amateur Radio Association meeting at the Tony Canale Training Center in this community.
Following many hours of study, Gibbs passed the Technician Class amateur radio examination that is required by the Federal Communications Commission.
The test includes a basic knowledge of electronics as well as understanding of Part 97 of the FCC Rules and Regulations.
Gibbs is a fifth grader in Reeds School, Galloway.
