RIO GRANDE — An e-mail “urban legend” is still circulating in county after two years regarding state troopers issuing tickets “every 10 to 20 minutes…in a speeding ticket rally.” N.J. State Police Lt. Gerald Lewis told the Herald on Friday, “There is no truth to it at all.”
The e-mail “warns” drivers that the state is “starting up a 30-day speeding ticket rally.”
It also erroneously warned that “every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are bringing in all of their part timers on full time.”
Regardless of the e-mail, drivers are urged to stay within the posted speed limit, wear seat belts and refrain from driving after drinking alcoholic beverages.
